Saraki, Dogara, Tambuwal Set To Return To PDP – Report
Indications have emerged that several top members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have concluded plans to rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to a report by 247ureports, notable APC stalwarts like Senate President Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara; his predecessor and current Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal and former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwakwanso were among those who are thought to be plotting to return to the PDP as a result of the decision of the party to zone the 2019 presidential election to the Northern region of the country.
247ureports avail that Kwakwanso has formally approached the acting national Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus and had agreed to remain in the APC until a later date, possible 2017 when he , along with other would-be APC defectors would jump ship in large numbers.
A source who spoke anonymously said Kwakwanso is still regarded as a PDP member, stressing that “He remains the leader of the ‘PDP’ in Kano presently”. According to the source Kwakwanso is miffed with President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC leadership after he was relegated to the sidelines especially considering the fact that Kano State gave the president 1.9 million votes in the 2015 presidential election, stating that “Without the 1.9million votes from Kano where would Buhari be today?”
Also speaking on the issue was a source close to Kwakwanso’s perceived rival in the state, Ibrahim Shekarau.
The source said that the PDP was willing to overlook Kwakwanso’s inabilities and shortcomings. He also added that “Other members who left for the APC are gradually coming back to us to open talks on how to forge a way forward”.
According to 247ureports, Tambuwal and Dogara have already expressed willingness to rejoin the PDP both officially and unofficially.
Asides the aforementioned, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is also set to announce his return to the PDP. with a reliable source who is a member of the National Executive Council (NEC) saying: “Some of his people have already decamped/returned as we speak”
The report also alleged that Saraki has already held meetings with the NEC of the PDP, intimating them of his plan to run for presidency on the platform of the party, same as Kwakwanso.
