Garba Shehu defends Buhari, explains statement about Aisha

Garba Shehu, the official spokesperson to President Muhammadu Buhari, has taken to his official Twitter account to explain the controversial statement of the president he made during a joint press briefing with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Recall that President Buhari has laughed off his wife’s statement that she may not support him if he runs again in 2019.

“I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room,” the president said.

Reacting to the development Garba Shehu: “My friends, can’t a leader get a sense humour anymore? Mr. President laughed before that statement was made.”

According to several media sources, the German chancellor has mocked President Muhamadu Buhari over his response to his wife’s interview.

However, how exactly she did it is unclear. President Buhari is currently in Berlin, Germany’s capital, where he discusses the fight against the terrorist group Boko Haram as well as the humanitarian situation in northern Nigeria among other issues of national importance.

The president will spend three days in the country before heading back to Abuja on Saturday, October 15.
