Jibrin says lawmakers earn N10m monthly

Former Chairman of House of Representatives Appropriation Committee, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has disclosed how much the lawmakers receive as monthly allowance.

Jibrin made the remarks on October 3 at a media conference with journalists and bloggers in Abuja tagged #Smmeetsjibrin.

The embattled lawmaker revealed that each member of the House of Reps gets an allowance of 10 million naira every month, amounting to 120million naira in a year.

His disclosure is bound to increase calls for a an Open National Assembly.

 Mr. Jibrin also promised to made more revelations in the days ahead about how some individuals in investigative committees commit corruption with their office.

Nigerians, who reacted immediately trough social media, are not happy over his fresh remarks.

Mr Jibrin was suspended on September 28 by the House after he failed to appear before the Ethics Committee over budget padding scandal.

 The controversial lawmaker demanded that the hearing should be put on live TV, saying that it was the condition that must be met before he would appear.

His suspension will continue for 180 sitting days and subsequent lockdown of his office.

However, he filed a suit against the Speaker of the House, Mr Yakubu Dogara, saying that the forwarding of the issue to the Ethics Committee contravened the law.
